Finch’s Odd Theory: Virat Kohli Trying to ‘Pick a Fight’ to Find His Form

Former Australian cricket captain Aaron Finch has stirred discussion with his bold remarks on Indian cricket star Virat Kohli during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kohli, a batting legend often hailed for his aggressive style, has faced intense criticism following a string of underwhelming performances since the Perth Test. The 37-year-old batsman continues to fall victim to the same mode of dismissal—repeatedly edging deliveries outside off-stump to the wicketkeeper or slip fielders.

Kohli’s Struggles in Test Cricket Continue

Kohli’s recent form in red-ball cricket has raised concerns. In 2024, he managed just 417 runs, averaging a disappointing 24.52. His persistent vulnerability outside the off-stump has become a glaring weakness, often exploited by opposition bowlers throughout the Border-Gavaskar series.

Finch, who previously played alongside Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), shared insights into Kohli’s apparent mindset during the series. Speaking on the Around the Wicket Podcast, Finch noted:

“Virat thrives under pressure and performs best when challenged. It seems like he’s deliberately trying to create that pressure by being antagonistic and almost inviting confrontation. That’s when he showcases his full array of skills.”

Can Kohli Regain Form?

Despite the criticism, Kohli’s ability to bounce back cannot be overlooked. His history of thriving under pressure makes him one of cricket’s most formidable competitors. Fans and experts alike will be watching closely to see if this antagonistic approach reignites Kohli’s match-winning performances.

As the series progresses, all eyes will remain on Kohli to see if he can overcome his current slump and reclaim his dominant form.
