Manchester United has canceled its sponsorship deal with Russian national airline company Aeroflot.
It is another dent to the Russian associations in the world of sports. Early on Friday, UEFA canceled the Champions League Final schedule to take place on 29th MAy in St. Petersburg Russia. The event has been shifted to Paris, France.
United said they had “withdrawn the sponsorship rights” of Aeroflot, who have been the club’s official carrier since 2013.
on Thursday, THE UK government banned Aeroflot from operating in the country as part of a series of sanctions with regards to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Aeroflot entity is majorly owned by Russian Federation.
A United spokesperson said: “In light of events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn Aeroflot’s sponsorship rights.
The Club and Aeroflot joined hands in 2013 and later renewed their association in 2017. The agreement was signed until 2023, with sources estimating it to be about 30 million pounds.
“We share the concerns of our fans around the world and extend our sympathies to those affected.”
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick said in a news conference on Friday: “I think everybody has the same opinion about what’s happening there. This is just a human disaster what’s happening there for all the people involved. The whole situation is desperately sad.
“When I watch TV in the morning and the evening I still cannot believe what I see. This is just a terrible situation and I very much help the politicians all over the world deescalate the situation and what’s happening there.”
The company has been an official carrier of the team since 2013.
We as responsible members of the Sports industry hope and pray that the current situation in the region de-escalates as early as possible and hope that both parties reunite and work towards the betterment of society.
